  1. Giving Back to Autism Speaks

LesserEvil is thrilled to take our Buy it Forward initiative to the next level. We are announcing a new partnership with Autism Speaks, and will be donating 10% of our profits to help spread their message of Autism Awareness.

“Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.” -Taken from AutismSpeaks.org

It is a disorder that is approaching epidemic level proportion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its estimate of autism prevalence in the United States to 1 in 88 children (1 in 54 boys and 1 in 252 girls). Autism Speaks is making great strides in getting the word out about this difficult disorder, and LesserEvil is thrilled to be an extension of this initiative.

If you are wondering what you can do to help, a great start would be signing up to Light it Up Blue on World Autism Day, which is Monday, April 2nd.

Big news for those of us in the Popcorn game yesterday!

A team of researchers with the American Chemical Society, led by researcher Joe Vinson, PhD of The University of Scranton, have discovered that our beloved snack is chock-full of antioxidants. We’re talking totally packed with the good stuff, Popcorn out ranks all the popular fruits and veggies. We knew there was a reason we loved popcorn, and it turns out that it’s because it helps keep us young with all the anti-aging benefits of antioxidants. So be sure to pick up a bag of LesserEvil Kettlecorn and Feel Good that you are eating a deliciously nutritious snack.

We will spare you the super sciency lingo, and let you check out some of the articles about this study yourself (See Below). We have even included a video of Dr. Vinson explaining his research at the 243rd National meeting and Exposition for the American Chemical Society held in San Diego, California…Even Analytical Chemists enjoy Snacks!

  4. Lesser Evil Mac & Cheese

Who doesn’t love Mac & Cheese? Seriously, we love it so much, we made our White Cheddar Krinkle Sticks in honor of it. As one of our die-hard fans pointed out, our White Cheddar Krinkle Sticks taste just like Mac & Cheese, but you have to eat a minimum of 5 Sticks. He told us about this phenomenon, so we tested it out. Sure enough, he was totally right! We took it to the next level and tried eating 5 Sticks at a time…That works too. We were inspired by The 5 Krinkle Stick Mac & Cheese idea, so we asked our favorite Guest Blogger, Amelia Winslow, from Eating Made Easy for a Less Evil version of the American Classic*.

*Note: If you are uncomfortable with Not using boxed mac & cheese, now would be a good time to avert your eyes :)

  5. Spring Fling

So when we got into the office yesterday, Google kindly reminded us that it was the first day of spring. Upon some more investigation, National Geographic informed us that winter actually ended at 1:14 am est on March 20, 2012.

We are based on the East Coast, and quite frankly we couldn’t notice the difference between winter and spring; it has been 50 to 60 for weeks. We hardly had any snow (except for what we now refer to as “Snow-Rene” back in October). We had all these lofty goals for the LesserEvil Team to go sledding outside of our building, and it looks like we are going to have to put them to rest now. Even Punxsutawney Phil was trying to help us get some snow action, by guaranteeing 6 more weeks of winter. We are just going to have to move forward, which is cool because Spring makes us think of starting fresh and new beginnings.

  6. Less Evil Banana Bread

If you haven’t noticed yet…We LOVE Snacking. Sometimes we even forget to sit down and have a real meal; we had a feeling that some people struggle with the same problem. To fix it, we decided to bring in some of our food-loving friends to share their techniques for eating Less Evil foods throughout the day. After all, living LesserEvil is more than just snacking, its about finding balance in snacks, meals, exercise and most importantly peace of mind.

We are thrilled to present our first “Guest Blogger,” Amelia Winslow, who is not only our friend but also a nutritionist, new mom, and the founder of Eating Made Easy. Be sure to subscribe to LessEvil Recipes, if you like what you see here!

  7. Cartooning

So yesterday we were snacking around LesserEvil Headquarters and someone brought up Cartoons. Naturally, we started examining which classic cartoon characters were More Evil and which ones were Less Evil. Some of you may have seen our post on Facebook and Twitter that got the conversation started, let’s keep it going. Who do you think will come out on top, More Evil or Less Evil?

Here is the list we came up with…And yes, we name names:

  8. Big Winner, Little State

We just got some good news, and figured we would share with our LesserEvil followers.

Over the weekend, LesserEvil’s Fields Good Kettlecorn won First Place in the Gluten-Free Category of The Connecticut Specialty Food Association’s 2012 Product Awards Competition.

    LesserEvil Classic Kettlecorn

First Place Winner in the Gluten-Free Category

This was a huge thrill for us and something that we were totally not expecting. We are so happy to have even been included in this year’s field of products. It is great to see some of the smaller brands in this industry getting the recognition they deserve for making some delicious and innovative products. Big props to Chaplin Farms for their unbelievably good Apple Pie Jam that took Product of the Year.

Sharing good food with good people is what we live for at LesserEvil. The CT Specialty Food Association has put together some of the best little brands in Connecticut, and as it just so happens the people that run those brands are our friends. So pumped to share this honor with them.

Be sure to try this product for yourself. Check out our Store Locator feature to see where you can pick up a bag in your neighborhood.

What is your favorite local product? Leave a comment below, and we will be sure to check it out.
