25 Things To Do While Staying Inside

Cabin fever is real, you guys. Some people are more cut out for social distancing than others. For those who already enjoyed spending long periods of time in the house, this “new normal” is - at least for now - a surreal dream come true. But for others, those who prefer a more on-the-go lifestyle, it will be a challenging time. 

So here are some ideas for entertaining things to do during this strange, strange time - and to prevent you from losing your mind. And remember, we’re all in this together (cue High School Musical soundtrack!).


  • Create a new recipe:  We all have that one recipe we’ve been meaning to try out - now is your chance. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a new hobby out of this!

  • Listen to music: Lift your spirits with a fun playlist of all your favorite songs. Extra points earned if a dance party takes place. 

  • Exercise: While you can’t go to the gym right now, there are a ton of great exercise videos you can find online. From yoga to cardio,  there’s something for everyone.

  • Read a Book: Now is the perfect time to delve into the pile of books that have been gathering dust on your nightstand. 

  • Organize Your House: Remember that huge cleaning session you’ve been thinking about doing for a while now, but never find the time to do? Here you go! 

  • FaceTime with a Loved One: While you might not be able to see your friends and family in person, we live in a wonderful tech savvy time where you can just pick up your phone and see their beautiful faces, which will surely put a smile on yours.  

  • Catch up on Netflix: Instead of watching The Office for the 50th time in a row (guilty) start to dive into some of the other shows and movies you’ve saved in your favorites list. 

  • Get Crafty: Create some indoor fun with clever Pinterest-perfect crafts using items you have around the house. Even better, upcycle something you're about to throw away into something new and beautiful.

  • Complete a Puzzle: The more pieces the better! This is a great way to  calm your mind and spend time with family inside. Plus, it’s such a rewarding feeling once you’ve finished!

  • Watch the Sunset: With the constant hustle and bustle of our normal lives, we really don’t ever take the time to slow down and appreciate the small and beautiful things around us. 

  • Look At Old Photos: Whether you live alone or with family, going through old photos is a great way to spend an afternoon. Going down memory lane and reminiscing about the good times will make you even more excited for the future. 

  • Pamper Yourself: Face masks, moisturizers, serums - oh my! Treat yourself to a relaxing at home spa session that you typically don’t have the time or energy for during a normal week (plus, it’s way cheaper!)

  • Find Your Match: If you’re a single pringle (YUP!) it’s an interesting time to be dating. Will FaceTime dating become a thing? If so, are we still required to get dressed up, or is a cute top with sweatpants acceptable? Since we can’t go out on actual dates, now is the perfect time to brush up on your online dating.

  • Put Together a Festive Charcuterie Board: Use this time to enhance your charcuterie board skills. The catch here though, you can only use the items you have in your fridge and pantry. When this is all over, people will be begging you to bring your insta famous board to a party. 

  • Look at Pictures of Puppies: This is pretty self-explanatory. I mean who can resist cute cuddly photos of adorable pups? 

  • Write in Your Journal:  This is a crazy and history making time, people! Take the time to write down all that’s happening and how the world is changing. This will be interesting to look back on in the future. 

  • Cuddle: Sometimes we all just need a good cuddle sesh. With your partner, with your pets, or with your blanket.

  • Throw an Indoor Picnic: Clear out the family room and set out some blankets with a basket of food as if you were having a picnic outdoors. It’s not as good as the real thing, but it works for now. 

  • Meditate: Try lying down with your eyes closed, palms up, and focus on your breath. This is a great way to calm your mind and bring a little peace into your life. 

  • Take a Bubble Bath: Light a candle, dim the lights, play some relaxing music and enjoy this little moment to yourself (bonus: Add a glass of wine). 

  • Learn a New Skill: Knitting, a foreign language, cooking, calligraphy - these are just some of the things you can become a pro at while staying indoors. YouTube is a great resource to use in order to pick up a new skill you’ve been wanting to learn. 

  • Have a Laugh: This might seem obvious, but sometimes we get so caught up in everything that’s going on around us, we forget to just let things go and laugh a little. Watch a funny video, or a standup comedy special and just be in the moment. 

  • Listen to a Podcast: I typically listen to my favorite podcasts during my commute to work, but since a lot of us are working from home right now, it’s still not a bad idea to put one on while cleaning, organizing or just lying on the couch. 

  • Play Games: Now is the perfect time for Pictionary, Taboo, Charades or any other game you haven’t played in a while. 

  • Read Some Good News: It’s important to stay up to date with the latest news about what’s going on in the world, but it’s also important to slow down, take a break from it all and focus on all the good that’s happening too!
