Local Summer Events Where Foodies Can Flourish

Summers in Connecticut have a lot to offer, from sunbathing at the beaches, hiking state parks, touring an array of historical sites, and indulging at food festivals! Because we’re snackers at heart, that last activity is our favorite, so here is our list of food-focused events you should keep in mind this summer if you’re in the area!

  • Food Truck Friday - Bethel (June 17, 2022, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST)
  • This is one of our favorite events on the list mostly because we’ll be there, hanging out with other amazing vendors and food trucks, playing corn hole, and listening to special guest singer, Jake Kulak! Pop on over to our booth and say hi! It’ll be a fun evening with lots of food, so come hungry. We promise you’ll leave happy!

  • The Danbury Farmers’ Market - Danbury (recurring from June 25, 2022 to October 29, 2022, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM EST)
  • Focusing on their motto “Better Food for Better Health,” the Danbury Farmers’ Market will be hosting local vendors who celebrate food with the freshest ingredients around! But the fun doesn't stop there. This event also hosts vendors who specialize in handmade crafts and professional services, such as alterations and repairs. The Danbury Farmers’ Market will be recurring all summer long and even into the fall season, so you should check out this amazing event a few times!

  • 6th Annual Compassionfest: Community, Equality, and Kindness - Hamden (July 23, 2022, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST)
  • At LesserEvil, we never stop pushing toward sustainability. Focused on creating more plant-based snacks, we totally stand by this event! The Compassionfest is more than just vegan food, however. They’ll also have crafts, music, workshops, a documentary showing, and even vegan tattooing! It’ll be an awesome event that will help spread awareness for a great cause.

  • Hey Stamford! Food Festival - Stamford (August 11 to 14, 2022 and August 18 to 21, 2022)
  • One of the biggest food festivals in the state is about to get bigger with special musical guests Vanilla Ice, DJ Pauly D, Flo Rida, and more! It’s a whole lot of fun and food (over 25 vendors!) packed into an event, so they’re spreading it into two separate weekends. Did we mention there’s also a beer garden? It’s all happening this August, so book your tickets today!

  • 2022 Naugatuck Made in Connecticut Expo - Naugatuck (August 13 and 14, 2022)
  • Even though Connecticut is one of the smallest states in the U.S., it thrives with amazing companies that have been built from the ground up. One of the best ways to witness this in one place is the Made in Connecticut Expo, an event that hosts around 300 booths in every category imaginable, from food and drink companies, handcrafted products, apparel and fashion designers, farm producers, local authors, health and beauty product companies, pet companies, upcyclers, and much more. This is a great event to support local businesses and new entrepreneurs who are looking to promote their products to the wider community.

  • 44th Annual Norwalk Oyster Festival (September 9 to 11, 2022)
  • The Norwalk Oyster Festival is a classic waterfront event in Connecticut, providing an array of family friendly activities such as arts and crafts, games and amusement rides, parades, and even harbor tour cruises located at the Veteran’s Park dock. And of course, the fresh seafood can’t be beat!

  • BONUS: The Big E (September 16, 2022 to October 2, 2022)
  • We would be remiss not to include The Big E in this list. This is the food event of all food events, and even though the state of Massachusetts technically hosts this colossal event, it is a celebration of all the New England states  - which you can experience by walking down the Avenue of States. But back to the food: they don’t call it Big E for nothing! Deep-fried everything you can think of and arm-lengthed turkey legs are just some of the unique food features at this event, making it absolutely worth the trip!

After a couple of years being stuck in the house, it’s exciting to know there are fun-filled events lined up this summer to get back out there! If you’re in the CT area, definitely check out these events and more to fulfill all your foodie desires!
