Amanda, Art Director
When did you start working at LesserEvil? November 2021
What is your background (schooling, internships, previous jobs)? I studied Menswear fashion design and International Trade and Marketing at the Fashion Institute of Technology. My first internship was for Michael Kors as his Men’s Collection (Runway) intern. I began working in fashion product development and moved to freelance fashion styling and art direction.
What made you choose this field? I’ve always been a lover of fashion and was obsessed with how technically precise men’s fashion and tailoring is. I felt that in order to know the craft inside and out, I needed to understand the business of fashion, which is why I continued my education in International Trade and Marketing.
What is your favorite part about working at LesserEvil? My team! We are paid to create! What a dream! In grade school, you would be reprimanded for doodling. At LesserEvil, we get to bring our doodles to life. It’s truly awesome.
What does a typical day look like for you? No such thing as a typical day for the design team!
What is your favorite LesserEvil snack? Fiery Hot Paleo Puffs. It’s the perfect amount of crunch and kick!
What is one concept, idea, or lesson you recently learned that you believe to be important enough to share? It’s not something I recently learned, but more so what I firmly believe: small habits lead to big changes.
Manny, Design Manager
When did you start working at LesserEvil? January 2019
What is your background (schooling, internships, previous jobs)? I have a BA in Fine Arts from Cazenovia College, and I’ve worked in several ad and design agencies before starting at LesserEvil.
What made you choose this field? I love art and design. I’m good at making things pretty.
What is your favorite part about working at LesserEvil? I really appreciate LesserEvil’s flexibility along with the positive attitude.
What does a typical day look like for you? I start the day with some coffee and listen to some chill acoustic while I look at the goals for the day ahead. I take the most important priorities and start with those. I work at trying to get my work done efficiently but also of the highest quality.
What is your favorite LesserEvil snack? Himalayan pink salt popcorn. It’s a classic that never gets old.
What is one concept, idea, or lesson you recently learned that you believe to be important enough to share? Let go of things you can’t control. Wake up every day and high five yourself. You are worthy of great things. Never settle for less than amazing. You can create the life you want if you write out who you want to become and then set small goals every day that will help you reach those goals.
When did you start working at LesserEvil? February 2020
What is your background (schooling, internships, previous jobs)? I studied Illustration at Western Connecticut State University. My first career-related job was at an eComm company, where I designed sports-related gifts for the athletes.
What made you choose this field? I’ve always been an artist. I love drawing, and I have won a few contests as a kid. I used to love cartoons and wanted to create my own for television one day. I strayed away from the arts in high school as I explored other interests, but I knew I would wind up back in it one way or another.
What is your favorite part about working at LesserEvil? I enjoy the wide variety of projects that my field – and my job at LesserEvil – allows me to do, from designing paid ads for social platforms, animating videos, creating a new package design, or even creating a billboard. My days are never the same. Also, all of my coworkers are super cool!
What does a typical day look like for you? There is always a lot going on for the design team. Sometimes I’m in the photo studio helping shoot a new product. Sometimes I’m working on creating digital content. Sometimes I’m even drawing new gurus for snacks that I can’t even talk about yet! Anything and everything can happen in one day.
What is your favorite LesserEvil snack? I love Spicy Salsa and “No Cheese” Cheesiness Power Curls as well as Fiery Hot and Himalayan Gold Popcorn. I have a savory palate, but I also enjoy turning up the heat!
What is one concept, idea, or lesson you recently learned that you believe to be important enough to share? It’s easy to forget when I’m creating so many things, but as a designer it’s important to slow down and look for inspiration to keep the creative juices flowing. I’ve recently started doing that again. It’s important to keep the brain stimulated.
Thomas Scallion, Junior Designer
When did you start working at LesserEvil? February 2022
What is your background (schooling, internships, previous jobs)? I started college as a History Education major at Eastern Connecticut State University and quickly learned I didn’t like American history. Eventually found my way into a Graphic Design major at Central Connecticut State University. I’ve done a few freelance jobs here and there and took on a design internship at the Student Activities and Leadership Development association at Central before I graduated. I’ve also gotten one design published in an art’s journal, which is pretty cool!
What made you choose this field? I’ve always loved art and being creative, especially skate graphics / culture. Also, I was terrible at writing, so graphic design seemed like a great way to work in a field where I can be passionate about what I do.
What is your favorite part about working at LesserEvil? I really enjoy never knowing what I am going to be working on next week. I’ve worked on everything from social media to popcorn packaging to tractor trailers. But the people that I get to work with at this company make everything that much better. Everyone at LesserEvil is so kind, supportive, and positive.
What does a typical day look like for you? I get in at 8:30 AM and settle at my desk by waking up my computer and going to the kitchen to make a coffee. I then spend a little bit of time sorting out all the projects I have to do that day while thinking of how I’m going to accomplish everything. For the remainder of the day, I switch between three to four projects, chipping away wherever my inspiration takes me. At 4:30 PM, I usually shut everything down for the day and go to the gym to work out before I head home.
What is your favorite LesserEvil snack? My favorite snack is our Spicy Salsa Power Curls. They’ve got a great taste with just enough of a kick. Plus, they help me out in the gym.
What is one concept, idea, or lesson you recently learned that you believe to be important enough to share? A job doesn’t need to be something to dread having to go to every weekday. I don’t know about Confucius’ quote about never having to work a day in your life, but you can get pretty close.
