Do you heat your coconut oil? Is it extra virgin?

At room temperature, coconut oil is solid. That's how we get it delivered to us. We use kettles to heat the oil up just enough so it melts and stays liquified through the whole process. It takes less than 150 degrees Fahrenheit to do the trick, so no super-heating going on here! All our coconut oil is indeed extra virgin and organic. We're proud of that, but it's quite a mouthful on the ingredient label :)

How are Paleo Puffs are cooked; are they baked or fried?

Paleo Puffs are an extruded product. This means that a dough is heated to a high temperature and pushed through a machine that extrudes them into the shape you see in the bag. The puff is then baked in an oven, tumbled in oil and seasoning, and then packaged.

How do you apply oils on the popcorn?

The oils are sprayed on in an unprocessed form after the popcorn has been popped. By not cooking the oils we believe you are getting more of the nutrients contained within each oil.

What is the difference between air popping and oil popping popcorn?

The most nutritious way to prepare popcorn is to air pop it. Oil popping can oxidize and damage both the oil and the popcorn. Analysis by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that 1 cup of air-popped popcorn contains only 31 calories, 1g of protein, 6g of carbohydrates and 1.2g of fiber. Air-popped corn is fat-, sodium- and cholesterol-free. In contrast, the same amount of oil-popped popcorn contains 55 calories of which 27 are from fat. Oil popping also adds 3g of fat and 97mg of sodium per cup.

How do we dispose of your packaging?

In 2019, LesserEvil is rolling out NEO packaging, including an additive that accelerates the microbial activity in landfills, converting discarded plastic into biogases and ultimately into a clean, renewable energy source. You can discard this packaging as you would other rubbish and it will then work within the landfills to create a clean, renewable energy.
